Jennifer Jencks

Center Head

IHO Data Centre for Digital Bathymetry

Jennifer Jencks is the Director of the IHO Data Centre for Digital Bathymetry, which is hosted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). At NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) in Boulder, Colorado, she leads the NCEI Ocean and Coastal Mapping Team and oversees the management of global marine geophysical data archives.

Jennifer is also chair of the IHO Crowdsourced Bathymetry Working Group and a member of the Atlantic Seabed Mapping International Working Group.

Before joining NOAA in 2009, Jennifer worked for a geophysical consulting firm in California, assisting in the planning and execution of seafloor mapping surveys. She oversaw surveys and coring operations to ensure data quality and accuracy, performed real-time interpretation of data, and analyzed geophysical data sets to evaluate shallow geohazards for resource potential and subsea equipment site selection.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Ocean Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and a Bachelor’s Degree in Geological Engineering from the University of Mississippi.
